The Perfect Bee Sting Cocktail - Beeble Co

The Perfect Bee Sting Cocktail

The ‘Bee Sting’ Cocktail closely resembles a ‘Bees Knees’ Cocktail, however it also contains some form of spice to give it that extra kick! During the Prohibition Era, spirits such as gin and whisky were commonly flavoured with honey and lemon juice to mask their strong and often unpleasant taste, hence essentially making them more palatable and drinkable.

Eventually the ‘Bees Knees’ Cocktail, which classically consists of gin, lemon juice and sugar, emerged as a common drink. The ‘Bee Sting’ Cocktail is a spicier version of this, however, as this can be done in a number of ways there are numerous variations of it!

A common version of the ‘Bee Sting’ Cocktail uses the classic ‘Bees Knees’ combination of gin, sugar and lemon juice and then adds a dash of ancho chilli liqueur to create a fiery sting. Other variations also use cayenne pepper, chilli syrup and even herbal infusions such as thyme and rosemary for a more subtle sting.

When we created our Beeble version of this delicious cocktail we wanted to keep the ingredients simple, fresh and accessible. As most people are likely to have a jalapeno lying around in the back of their fridge we thought this would be the perfect way of adding a real kick to the drink, without masking the exquisite flavours of our Honey Whisky.

To create the ‘Beeble Bee Sting’ Cocktail we combine our Beeble Honey Whisky with lemon juice, homemade honey syrup and a slice of fresh jalapeno pepper. In addition, we like to add one large egg white to give the drink a delicious velvety-foam finish.

Note: This honey syrup can also be used in a few of our other cocktail recipes such as the ‘Beeble Bees Knees’ and so it is worth making one big batch and then storing it for a few months in the fridge – check out more of our recipes here!

~ Beeble’s top tip ~ If you want your cocktail extra spicy leave the seeds in the jalapeno pepper when shaking and add a few thin slices into the drink as a final touch!
